Hello, I am Chantelle Hamilton, the founder of Lichen + Stone in Ottawa, Canada. I have always been passionate about taking care of people and the planet. Originally, I studied Biology to become an expert about our planet and all who reside on it. However, I was missing the people side of things and was feeling a little confined to a lab. After searching for a career that combined my passions and strengths of science, art and drama, I discovered that Interior Design was my calling and returned to school to get my BAA Interior Design. After, working as a designer and project director with various companies for over a decade, I established Lichen + Stone in 2022. I love working with my clients and helping them discover solutions for their home that will elevate their lifestyles. It is humbling to help clients make good decisions for the planet while they shape a home that speaks to them.

Our industry accounts for over 30% of landfill waste, so there is a lot of opportunity for improvement. I work with my clients to help them make better informed choices, selecting and advocating for materials that have a low carbon impact and a regenerative lifecycle while maintaining and enhancing their vision. It can be overwhelming for homeowners to make good decisions in this industry as there is a lot of confusion as to what is truly sustainable, not to mention that the cost of being good can sometimes be debilitating to a project's growth. It's my goal to make these good choices accessible to all, in designs that are tailored to my clients needs creating truly functional, sustainable and inspiring spaces.
